1.1. How do I find my advisor's name and contact information?

2. MyDSCC

2.1. What is MyDSCC?

FAQ Answer: MyDSCC is the student's gateway to online student services including registration for classes, fee payments, grades, class schedules, and much more. The system is available 24 hours a day , 7 days a week. Log on to www.dscc.edu and select the red MyDSCC link at the top right of the page.

2.2. How do I log into MyDSCC account?

FAQ Answer: When you apply for admission , a letter containing your log in information will be mailed from the Office of Records to you. You need to safeguard this letter. To access MyDSCC , go to www.dscc.edu and select the red MyDSCC link at the top right of the page. Once you log into MyDSCC , you can change your password but not your Username. Be sure to remember any changes you make.

2.3. What is my User ID and Password?

FAQ Answer: Your User ID and password were mailed to you after you applied for admission. If you have forgotten your User ID or password , please contact the help desk at 731 288 7780.

3. DSCC Online Course FAQ

3.1. How do I find my eLearn username and password?

For technical assistance with online classes such as finding your username and password, contact the LRC Help Desk at 731-288-7780 for the Dyersburg Campus, 901-475-3177 for the Jimmy Naifeh Center or 731-222-5180 for the Gibson County Center. 3.2. How much computer and internet experience do I need to succeed in an online or hybrid course?

You need some experience navigating and using the internet. Important skills include knowing how to download files, attach document files to e-mail, and use word processing software. Your instructor will provide you with an orientation to the class on the first scheduled class meeting and an online orientation is available to learn to use Online Classes for your online your class.

3.3. If I have a question or complaint about my instructor in an online course, who do I contact?

You should first talk to your instructor directly. If you still have unresolved issues, you should feel free to speak to the Division Dean or contact the Distance Education Coordinator at 731-286-3292.

3.4. Can I send eLearn email to people in another eLearn class or to people's personal email accounts?

No: eLearn email stays within the eLearn environment and is not the same as a student's school email or personal email accounts. A student can email the instructor and anyone else in the class, but cannot email outside of the class.

3.5. Why aren't all my courses available in eLearn?

Access to courses inside eLearn is available to students on the first day of class. If the semester has officially begun and you still do not have access, make sure you are still enrolled in the course. Nonpayment and other holds could be preventing you from accessing your course. Please contact the Business Office at 731.286.3306 for questions regarding the payment of fees or holds.

3.6. When I click on my Instructors attachment (like a PowerPoint presentation), I cannot open it. Why?

To open non-webpage (html) attachments, you need to have that program installed on the computer where you are trying to open it. If you are opening a PowerPoint file, you need to have PowerPoint or PowerPoint Viewer installed on your computer. If you need access to a computer with Microsoft Office, you can visit one of the campus labs. 3.7. What is an Access Code?

A Student Access Code is a series of letters and numbers that allow you to access course content (called an e-Pack) selected by your instructor. Student Access Codes are often confused with MyDSCC IDs o rDSCC eLearn (D2L) IDs, but they are not the same. If you are having trouble with your Access Code, please contact your instructor.

3.8. Which is the best browser for eLearn?

DSCC eLearn is best viewed with Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, or Safari. All Online class users should go through the system check located on the DSCC eLearn page which can be accessed at www.dscc.edu.

3.9. Are online courses easier than traditional courses?

Online courses require at least as much effort and time as traditional courses, if not more. Since students work primarily on their own without face-to-face contact with instructors, they may not always have regular classroom reminders and clarifications available to students in traditional courses.

3.10. How do I access my online class?

Online Classes may be accessed by going to www.dscc.edu, clicking on Online Classes, and logging in with your Dyersburg State student account credentials (username and password). Once you are logged in, you will see your course list. Click on the course name to enter the class. 3.11. How is attendance taken in an online course?

An online class absence may be identified as a missed assignment or inactivity in the course site, which the instructor is able to track. Please view the official DSCC Attenadance Policy for specific details.

3.12. I can't view my quizzes, discussion postings, or download links.

Pop-up blockers can stop you from using several DSCC eLearn (D2L) tools correctly. Pop-up blocking functions are included in some anti-virus, internet security, personal firewall, and toolbar browser programs (such as Google and Yahoo toolbar). Even Windows XP Service Pack (SP2) includes a popup blocker for Internet Explorer 6. This feature can potentially cause problems with DSCC eLearn (D2L). To adjust the pop-up blocker settings in Internet Explorer, 1) Click on Internet Explorer 2) Click on the Tools tab at the top of the page to open a drop down menu, 3) click on Pop-up Blocker, 4) click on Pop-Up Blocker Settings. This will allow you to add this site to your browser. 3.13. Who do I contact if I am having trouble with eLearn?

3.14. Can I access my eLearn course(s) from home?

Yes, provided you have Internet access at home. In fact, you can access your eLearn courses from any computer anywhere provided it has an Internet connection.

3.15. Can I work at my own pace or do I need to follow a class schedule?

Online courses follow the same schedule as traditional courses. These are not self-paced courses. Students follow an outline of topics, turn in assignments and take exams on dates scheduled in the course by the instructor. For example, an instructor makes an assignment due on July 8th. The student may work on the assignment any time (night or day). As long as the student turns the completed assignment in by July 8th, the student has met the instructor's expectations.

3.16. What are the computer requirements for online classes?

Each online course may have specific requirements, depending on the course. You should check the Course Syllabus to ensure your PC meets the specifications for the course. Generally, however, you should have a computer that has a Windows Vista or better operating system, 1GB of RAM, 80GB Hard Drive, and a processor speed of at least 1 Ghz.

3.17. What if I don't have equipment needed at home to access an online course?

All of Dyersburg State locations have computer labs and resource centers with open lab hours where the courses may be accessed. Of course, to be successful in an online course, you must have reliable access to either a DSCC lab or a computer with Internet access.

3.18. Will there be any on-campus meetings for online courses?

Other than the possible proctored examination, internet course work is done completely online.

3.19. Is there an orientation for online courses?

Orientation tutorial videos are provided by the DSCC Help Desk. A link to the videos can be found in the How to Get Started section of the DSCC eLearn course homepage, on the Help Desk webpage, or by going directly to the Tutorials page at www.dscc.edu/tutorials. 3.20. Why do my email messages and discussion posts disappear once I read them?

FAQ Answer: To show previously read email or discussion postings, select "All" next to display.

3.21. Do students get the same information and content in an Internet course as they would in an on-campus course?

FAQ Answer: The education you receive from an online class is the same: however, due to the nature of online learning you may experience the course in a format that best transmits the learning experience through online media.

3.22. Will I have an opportunity to evaluate the course and the instructor for an online class?

FAQ Answer: It is very important that you complete a course evaluation at the end of each semester. Your instructor will provide you with a link to an online evaluation. When you submit the evaluation, it goes to a database in the Distance Education office and your evaluation is anonymous.

3.23. Are all tests and quizzes taken online for online courses?

FAQ Answer: Yes, all tests and quizzes are taken online. Some instructors may require students to come to the nearest campus to take online proctored tests or quizzes. Instructors should provide you with all of the necessary information about scheduling a proctored examination.

3.24. What is a test proctor and how do I find the proctor's schedule at the nearest location?

FAQ Answer: A test proctor is a Dyersburg State staff member whose primary responsibility is to ensure that the test is given by the standards and conditions outlined by the instructor. To schedule a proctor, please visit https://booknow.appointment-plus.com/41yq07z0/.

3.25. How do I complete my coursework for online classes?

FAQ Answer: Internet courses are taught using the Online Classes course management system. Coursework completed within the online learning environment involves lectures, email, discussion boards, testing, file sharing, and group collaboration.

3.26. Where do I buy textbooks that are required for an online course?

FAQ Answer: Books may be purchased at any of the college's bookstore locations or may be ordered online from the college bookstore at http://www.dscc.edu/bookstore.

3.27. Who do I contact if I need technical assistance in my online course?

FAQ Answer: For course related issues, you should contact your course instructor. It is up to the instructor to determine their specific grading and attendance standards, which should be listed in their syllabus.

3.29. Are Hybrid courses designed for specific students?

FAQ Answer: Hybrid courses are designed for busy students who need a flexible schedule and can replace some on-campus time with online study or students who prefer some personal contact with the instructor and other students.

3.30. What if I don't have equipment needed at home to access a Hybrid course?

FAQ Answer: All of the Dyersburg State locations have computer labs and resource centers with open lab hours where the courses may be accessed.

3.31. Do students get the same information and content in a Hybrid course as they would in an on-campus course?

FAQ Answer: The education you receive from a Hybrid class is the same: however, due to the nature of online learning you may experience the course in a different format. A format that best transmits the learning experience through online media.

3.32. Will the face-to-face class always meet on the same day in an online or hybrid class?

FAQ Answer: Yes. The day the class meets on campus will be posted in the course schedule and these dates and times will remain the same throughout the semester.

4. TN eCampus

4.1. I registered for a TN eCampus online course. Where do I get textbooks?

TN eCampus books can only be purchased through the TN eCampus Virtual Bookstore. At the website, place your cursor over the "Books" link and click on the Textbooks & Course Materials link. Then use the various drop down menus to find your courses and view the required and suggested textbooks. Please be sure to read the return policy and other important notices. The DSCC bookstore does not sell TN eCampus books.

4.2. Where and when do I access the TN eCampus online course site?

New students should read and complete all sections of the TN eCampus Orientation for Online Students. 

You will not be able to access courses until the first day of the semester, and be aware some delays may occur.

Students adding courses during the late registration period will not be able to access their courses for an additional 24-48 hours after their registration is complete.

To access TN eCampus courses (course sections R01, R25, and R50) go to https://gotoclass.tnecampus.org/d2l/login and follow the instructions to form your user name and password. You will not use the same username and password that you use at Dyersburg State!

If you have technical difficulties accessing your course (logging in, timing out, using your course tools) please call the AskRODP Help Desk at 1-888-223-0023 or go to their website at help.rodp.org (Note: You must be a a registered TN eCampus student to utilize this service.)

4.3. I have an issue with a TN eCampus online course. What should I do?

You should first attempt to resolve course issues by communicating with the instructor. If you are not able to reach a resolution, you can contact us for assistance. Please send an email that includes your full name, D-Number, the course ID (ex. BIOL 1010-R50) the instructors name, and details of the problem you are having to danderson@dscc.edu. Include information about your attempts to resolve the situation yourself. We will contact you as soon as we have information to share with you.
